Doctor Who: Taut Adventure Reverses Decline In Scifi

So, after a really solid historical jaunt last week, we’re zooming off into science-fiction once more, with this week’s outing, the satisfyingly-named Kerblam!

And now, it’s worth saying that I’ve not been the hugest fan of the sci-fi so far this season: The Ghost Monument was oddly-placed and overstuffed, while The Tsuranga Conundrum was seriously rough around the edges (despite both episodes looking truly gorgeous). As I said last week, this season of Doctor Who feels the most forward when it’s looking backwards, and they’ve yet to prove themselves with an excellent space-age outing.

Riverdale S3E5: The Great Escape

I mean, ever since the first episode of this season, where Archie ended up in jail, I knew that we were destined/doomed to this plot: a prison break. But this week’s episode, The Great Escape, dives into the inevitable with hysterical commitment – and somehow, success.

The Haunting of Hill House and the Ghosts of Trauma

So, I’ve just recovered from watching The Haunting of Hill House a few weeks ago and boy, do I have some shit to say. From sensational performances, amazing cinematography, fabulous direction, and the only jumpscare that actually got my bowels to twitch in terror, this is quite simply one of the best horror shows I’ve ever seen in my life. No, scratch that – one of the best pieces of horror media I’ve ever come across. Following the interlocking stories of the Crane family, the show investigates both the past of the Cranes, living in the haunted Hill House as children and parents, and their lives after the haunting at the hands of the Hill House ghosts as adults. If you haven’t seen it, off you go and watch it now – spoilers ahead, and I don’t want to ruin anything for you.

Doctor Who: Terrific Although Rocky – Delivers Inherent Sincerity

I think one of the biggest problems of this season of Doctor Who has been the fact that Chris Chibnall has been behind every episode of Jodie Whittaker’s run so far. It’s not that I hate the direction in which he’s been taking the show – as I’ve been saying the last few weeks, I really enjoy the warmer, more joyful edge that he’s brought to Doctor Who, and the effort he’s putting in to giving us some silly, fun little stories around a Doctor who feels genuinely new.

It’s the weekend, and you know what that means: it times to recline, relax, boot up that group chat, and get stuck in to all the gossip you missed this week. And what juicier gossip than a little drama courtesy of a very emotional ALPHA FEMALE?

Riverdale S3E4: The Midnight Club

Right from Riverdale’s unbelievably kooky little nineties-throwback title card, I knew that this was going to be an episode that, despite myself, I enjoyed. And dammit, I did.

The Midnight Club, this week’s episode of Riverdale, is the long-awaited flashback episode, covering the teenage past of Alice,  FP, Fred, Hermione, and company as it relates to the current outbreak of suicides in the present-day Riverdale teens.
