Rape Jokes
by thethreepennyguignol
Two years ago, I started work on a book. That book was about rape and sexual assault and recovery and female friendship and surviving in a world filled with reminders of your abuse. And, tomorrow, that book is going to become my debut novel.
I can’t really even begin to express how it feels to know that Rape Jokes is going to be out in the world in just a matter of hours. For a lot of reasons, this is probably the most personal work of fiction I’ve ever put out there, and, yes, it’s a little terrifying to think that so many people will be delving into those parts of my head by tomorrow afternoon. But, more than anything, it’s unbelievably exciting: I’ve wanted to write for as long as I can remember, and knowing that the very first novel by Louise MacGregor is going to be out tomorrow is so amazing that it doesn’t feel like it could possibly be real. But it is. And that’s just…I know that, as a writer, not having words is kind of ironic, but here we are. You can read about the inspirations behind the book here, and more information about the release here, if you want to go back and look at stuff from a time when I did have the words to talk about all of this.
I’d like to just share a big thanks to my publisher, Frayed Edge Press: they have been an amazing support through this process, and I’m confident that they’ve turned Rape Jokes into the very best version of itself. I’ve loved working with them and am so proud to be alongside a roster of their awesome authors ( awesthors? I’m working on it. Anyway, go check out their other releases here).
I’m writing this post to let you know that you can still get the book at a 20% pre-order discount right here. For those of you who’ve been so supportive through this process, thank you, thank you, thank you, and for everyone who’s going to read it: I hope you love it as much as I do.
