Where does Jordan Peele’s latest fit in the landscape of post-modern horror?

Yeah, I’m late getting to covering The Umbrella Academy. And you know why that is? It’s because of The Netflix Bloat.
In case you missed it, I’m bisexual. I am very much on the bi side of the spectrum. When it comes to sexuality: straight I ain’t. And since this is my blog, I can yell as much as I like about things that interest me, and the representation of the non-straights in pop culture has always been one of them. So it only seems right, after the decided chasteness of my last set of recaps, that I take on something a little more…sexual. A little more gay. A little more…Sugar Rush.
DID WE MENTION how much we love horror?
Alright, you know what? That’s it. I’m done.
I’m done trying to make sense of this show. I’m done trying to figure out what the best version of Riverdale is – I’m done lying awake at night imagining KJ Apa lurking at the end of my bed and croaking horrors about another fucking boxing episode. Trying to find logic in what makes Riverdale work is very possibly the reason that I am currently seeing a therapist. You look back over these recaps and tell me that they haven’t just been a desperate record of my personal descent into madness. I defy you.
It would be remiss of me, in this recap of a debut book, not to mention that my very own debut novel Rape Jokes is coming out in just TWO DAYS OH MY GOD. You can still get it at a pre-release discount till then right here – it’s about rape, sexual dysfunction, misogyny, and harassment, so it’s all round a bundle of laughs. Less child abuse than Harry Potter, so…upsides? Anyway.
Marvel’s first female-fronted movie is here – but does it work, or is it too ambitious for its own good?
Before we go the fuck anywhere with this, I just want to yell loudly about the fact that my debut novel is out in THREE DAYS and you can still get it at a pre-release discount till then right here – it’s about rape, sexual dysfunction, misogyny, and harassment, so it’s all round a bundle of laughs. Just like these articles! See, I tied it in.
I just want to remind you up top that my fucking DEBUT NOVEL comes out in FIVE DAYS which means you just have a few days left to get it at a pre-sale 20% discount. Right here! Get on it! Go on!
This week’s outing, American Dreams, is Riverdale’s fiftieth episode. Which could be a chance for the show to pause and reflect on things – but instead, we’re gallumphing forward with the speed and control of a runaway hippopotamus. Let’s get into it, shall we?
