Well, a new season of Black Mirror out, and a new excuse for us to spend the next two weeks shooting fearful glances at our phones and wondering if they somehow contain the lost souls of that weird hamster you owned as a child. I just finished up the season, and I have some heavy opinions, and I’ll bet you do to (so share them with me in the comments below). Spoilers ahoy!
Ugh. I’m going to be honest with you: I don’t want to write this recap. After last week’s rapetacular mess, I was feeling pretty cool towards Vikings in general – and this week’s outing, Full Moon, didn’t exactly do much to welcome me back into the fold.
So, it’s that time of the year once more. I may not have been the most positive I’ve ever been about TV this year – between the outright awfulness of Doctor Who, to the sproadic weirdness of Vikings, to the who-the-fuck-knows-seriously of American Horror Story, I seem to have spent a lot of time exasperated with the small screen. But I still love my TV, we’re closing out on 2017 and for once, I feel like being a little positive. So let’s take a look at my ten best shows of the year!

After a great episode like last week’s, there’s always going to be a drop-off of sorts. And Vikings couldn’t avoid it, with a patchy, often bizarre episode, that felt as much like a fumble as it did a home run.
Ugh. This review is a little late, because I’ve been spending a wonderful festive season with my family in Spain and frankly can’t think of much less I’d rather do than spend an hour repeating for the ten thousandth time exactly why Steven Moffat is a terrible showrunner and why Peter Capaldi’s run on Doctor Who has been perhaps the most consistently unlikeable in recent memory, but here we are. One last time. Let’s do this thing. Moffat starting out 2017 with some fuckery, and he’ll end it that way, too.
My worst movies of the year!
“I don’t know who I am anymore,” Floki murmurs to Lagertha in this episode of Vikings, and Gustaf Skarsgard plays the line with something between excitement and terror. And I personally can’t think of a better summation of this week’s outing, The Prisoner, and this season as a whole so far.
Ah, another year gone by, another myriad of awful shows to whine about when I could just turn off the TV and get some bloody fresh air for a change. But for now, let’s focus on the disappointments of the small screen, and count down the worst shows of the year.
